Jai Jemini Turned a Journal Entry Into "BLESSINGS," Her Million-Stream Single

North Carolina rapper Jai Jemini wrote "BLESSINGS" as a private affirmation after moving to Miami — MadameNoire reports it passed a million streams.

The Culture Desk

Jai Jemini spent years writing before the world caught on. The North Carolina-born rapper, who bills herself as The Rebel Southern Belle, released the single "BLESSINGS." Her Apple Music catalog dates the original single to 2024, with a radio edit following in 2025. MadameNoire, which interviewed her, dates the song's breakout to April 2025, when it passed a million streams and went viral on TikTok, where fans built their own videos around the track. It now has an official music video on YouTube, and MadameNoire gave it the No. 1 slot on its own Sounds Like Summer playlist, calling it a viral banger.

A journal entry, not a lyric sheet

A folded love letter sealed with a red heart-shaped wax seal sits beside a torn sheet of paper covered in aggressive, illegible scribble marks, the two halves tearing into each other along a jagged diagonal seam, linked by a ribbon of teal smoke.

The song did not start as a song. In an exclusive interview with MadameNoire's Tiffany Smith, Jai Jemini said "BLESSINGS" grew out of a private journal entry she wrote as an affirmation, working through culture shock after leaving North Carolina for Miami. "If you've ever been to Miami, you know the beauty standards there are a lot different from North Carolina," she told the outlet. The affirmation became a verse, and the verse became the record that introduced her to a much bigger audience than she'd had before.

A glowing golden soundwave bursts through the screen of a stylized smartphone above a crowd of raised, anonymous silhouette hands holding up glowing phone screens, set against a warm gold-to-red sky, with a teal waveform line along the bottom edge.

She has been writing since she was six years old, per that same interview, but says the rap career itself never felt inevitable: "I never thought that I could really be a rapper." Asked about the response to "BLESSINGS," she was direct about being caught off guard: "I didn't expect it. I really just genuinely did not expect it to gain traction."

“My value is not connected to my looks.”

One breakout single, a real catalog behind it

"BLESSINGS" is not a debut. Jai Jemini's own Apple Music catalog page lists a run of releases going back to 2019's "Real Bitch" and 2023's "Move," through a run of 2025 output — "S.L.U.T.," "BIGGER THAN THE PROGRAM," "STFU," and the EP "Come Healed, I Want to Hurt You Myself" — and into a 2026 project titled "Love Letters & Diss Tracks," carrying tracks including "Superstar," "LoverGirl," and "LMK," alongside a separate 2026 single, "You The Birthday." She has also turned up as a featured guest on Scooben Von Duben's "B.A.N."

Jai Jemini describes herself as an independent artist, and the reach "BLESSINGS" found came through the same channel most breakout rap singles rely on now — TikTok, one fan video at a time.
